Directed by Jack Hill and starring such recognizable grindhouse stars as Sid Haig, Pam Grier, Judith Brown and Roberta Collins, THE BIG DOLL HOUSE was the first film to introduce many of the exploitative elements that became so prevalent in the WIP or Women in Prison flick. A jungle hell prison set in some unknown banana republic, scantily clad yet tough women prisoners, shower scenes, mud wresting, torture, the sadistic warden, action oriented escapes; it’s all here. Though films like Jesus Franco’s 99 WOMEN and Lee Frost’s LOVE CAMP 7 (both 1969) helped kick the sub genre into gear, it was THE BIG DOLL HOUSE that took it to the level of high camp and inspired all of the WIP films that followed.

This was only the second film to be released by Roger Corman’s New World Pictures. Within the next three years the production company would release four more WIPs, but none were as wild as this initial entry. A true trash classic that ranks up there as one of the greats of grindhouse cinema.
