More of a character piece than an action film, HICKEY AND BOGGS is pretty fucking great, despite being pretty fucking depressing. A couple down-and-out private investigators are hired by a sleazy lawyer (redundant, I know) to find a missing girl. They instead find a whole lot of trouble.
Bill Cosby proves he wasted too much of his life on crap like “The Cosby Show,” LEONARD PART 6, and GHOST DAD. He’s fucking awesome as the burned-out Al Hickey – former cop, deadbeat dad, and all-around asshole. Robert Culp (who also directs) plays a raging alcoholic with a penchant for cheap prostitutes.
Needless to say, this was the feelgood hit of ’72.
RECOMMENDED.
