[TRAILER] REPTILICUS (1961)

REPTILICUS

Miners in Denmark experience the ultimate guilt trip after unearthing a piece of tail that grows into a vicious dinosaur with city stomping abilities.  As the beastie, dubbed Reptilicus, crashes and spits its way through Copenhagen, grumbling American general, Mark Grayson (Carl Ottosen) must find a way to defeat the creature in between travelogue type excursions around the city.

Hilarious Danish/American co-production is infamous for its title beast; a slithering, wide mouthed reptile that ties the giant space buzzard from THE GIANT CLAW (1957) as one the goofiest monsters ever put on film. Originally shot and released in Denmark in 1961, an American version was shot simultaneously, adding an effect that gives the monster the ability to spit green, acidic goo out of its maw.  Basically an immobile, wired marionette, Reptilicus spends most of its rampage through Copenhagen slithering though the city streets, head butting buildings.  Its attack on a family farm is particularly laugh-inducing.

A bit slow in the beginning, once REPTILICUS releases its monster on the Danish masses this baby really hums in gut busting fashion. I haven’t laughed this hard since a viewing of THE BEAST OF YUCCA FLATS (1961) with DG’s Chief and Founder. Bad movie bliss.
