A solid cast and the guy who penned Universal’s THE WOLF MAN (1941) (director Curt Siodmak) can’t save this dull horror drama about adultery and jungle curses on a South American plantation. Raymond Burr is well cast as the plantation manager who commits murder to get at his bosse’s wife, only to end up cursed by a local witch who disapproves of his actions and turns him into a gorilla. Lon Chaney Jr. plays a local police official who seems glad that it isn’t he who is turning into a hairy monster for once. Woody Strode appears in an early film role.
