THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, 2018 (All show times are local)
No matter how many times you see it, it’s always a good idea to watch COFFY. It’s playing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn at 7:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
The Capitol Theatre in Cleveland is showing modern cult favorite TURBO KID along with new zombie flick ZOMBIOLOGY at 7:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
Under-seen early ’70s crime drama THE DAY OF THE WOLVES is showing at Spectacle Theater in Brooklyn at 7:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
WHIP IT is one of the most underrated movies of the last ten years (it’s so good it even manages to make Jimmy Fallon tolerable). You can catch it at the Alamo Drafthouse in Denver at 7:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
As a big fan of the flick, I’m thrilled to see that a 35mm print of GINGER SNAPS is making the rounds. Sorry if I keep trying to ram it down your throats. It is screening tonight at Doc Films on the University of Chicago campus at 9:30 pm. Tickets are $5 at the door. All info can be found here.
Robert Rodriguez’ ultimate low-budget action flick EL MARIACHI is showing at Videology Bar & Cinema in Brooklyn at 6:45 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
If you know of an under-the-radar theater or film society regularly putting together repertory screenings or special events, feel free to let me know on Twitter!
