THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 25, 2017 (All show times are local)

The New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles is doing a double feature of John Carpenter’s DARK STAR at 7:00 pm and THE THING at 8:55 pm. Both films are being screened from 35mm prints. Tickets and info can be found here.

Author James Ellroy will be on hand for a screening of L.A. CONFIDENTIAL at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago at 7:00 pm. This is a 35mm screening. Tickets and info can be found here.

David Cronenberg’s CRASH is one of the midnight movies at IFC Center in New York. This is a 35mm screening. Tickets and info can be found here.

The Hollywood Theatre in Portland, OR is showing Don Coscarelli’s wonderful adaptation of Joe R. Lansdale’s BUBBA HO-TEP at 9:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Cult zombie favorite FIDO is playing at Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn at midnight. Tickets and info can be found here.

The Alamo Drafthouse in Houston is doing a double feature of Stephen King-penned horror films starting at 8:30 pm with SILVER BULLET and SLEEPWALKERS. Tickets and info can be found here.

If a double feature of King isn’t enough for you, how about a triple feature? American Cinematheque in Los Angeles is showing CREEPSHOW, CAT’S EYE, and CREEPSHOW 2 starting at 7:30 pm. CREEPSHOW and CAT’S EYE are being screened from 35mm prints and CAT’S EYE director Lewis Teague will be on hand for an interview. Tickets and info can be found here.
