[DAILY RUNDOWN] TODAY’S COOL SCREENINGS!

THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

 

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 30, 2017 (All show times are local)

 

The Music Box Theatre in Chicago is screening two excellent Walter Matthau films as part of their “Noir City” series. At 5:00 pm and 9:30 pm is Matthau at his hard-boiled best as the titular character in CHARLEY VARRICK. Tickets and info for that film can be found here. At 7:15 pm, he’s a tired, acerbic transit cop negotiating with criminals who have taken a subway car of people hostage in THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE. Tickets and info for that film can be found here. Both films are being screened from 35mm prints.

 

 

 

Bawdy, hilarious Rodney Dangerfield vehicle EASY MONEY is screening from a 35mm print at the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn at 9:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

The Castro Theatre in San Francisco is doing a double feature of Richard Linklater ensemble comedies. At 7:00 pm, his classic DAZED AND CONFUSED is screening from a 35mm print and at 8:55 pm, his most recent film EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!! is playing. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

 

Need a reminder why it’s important to never let white-supremacist bullshit to go unchecked? Go see GREEN ROOM at the Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas at 9:05 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

1982 oddity WHATEVER HAPPENED TO SUSAN JANE? is showing at Comfort Station in Chicago at 8:00 pm. This is part of the Released and Abandoned series curated and hosted by DAILY GRINDHOUSE‘s own Paul Freitag-Fey. Admission is free. All info can be found here.

 

 

Trent Harris’ fascinating series of underground documentaries are playing together as THE BEAVER TRILOGY at the Alamo Drafthouse in Lubbock, Tx at 7:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
