[DAILY RUNDOWN] TODAY’S COOL SCREENINGS!

THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2017 (All show times are local)

A commercial flop when it was released to head-scratching reviews, THE HUDSUCKER PROXY has aged remarkably well. Catch it screening from a 35mm print at the Museum of Modern Art in New York at 1:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Jean-Pierre Melville’s tense wartime drama ARMY OF SHADOWS is showing at Trylon Cinema in Minneapolis at 7:00 pm and 9:45 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

NEAR DARK, Kathryn Bigelow’s gritty, fatalistic take on the vampire film, is screening from a 35mm print at the Metrograph in New York at 7:00 pm and 11:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

‘Tis the season, after all. SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT is showing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Houston at 10:45 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

One of the more truly artistically bankrupt Christmas slasher flicks, DON’T OPEN TILL CHRISTMAS is one of the midnight movies at Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn. Tickets and info can be found here.

What the hell, why not one more screening of that gorgeous new 4K restoration of SUSPIRIA before the year is over? Go see it at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge, MA at 10:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Hop in the time machine with me and let’s go back to 1996 when Pamela Anderson starred in a futuristic take on CASABLANCA that was thoroughly trounced by critics that no one would admit to seeing. I have no idea how well BARB WIRE has aged, but I remember it being trashy fun when it hit home video two decades ago. Go check it out at IFC Center in New York at midnight to see how it holds up. Tickets and info can be found here.
