[DAILY RUNDOWN] TODAY’S COOL SCREENINGS!

THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society and repertory theater.

FRIDAY, APRIL 28, 2017 (All show times are local)

Remember when John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper teamed up to direct a horror anthology film for Showtime? The result was BODY BAGS, a collection of three tales that range from straight forward slasher to dark comedy to uncomfortable and ugly (Can you guess which one Hooper directed?) Cinefamily in Los Angeles is playing the film at midnight with producer Sandy King Carpenter in attendance. Tickets and info can be found here.

Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn is showing David Fincher’s exacting, wholly engrossing ZODIAC at midnight. This is one of the best films of the 21st century, so you should not miss this chance to see it on the big screen. Tickets and info can be found here.

International House in Philadelphia is showing Andrzej Zulawski’s surreal sci-fi epic ON THE SILVER GLOBE at 7:00 pm. This is a presentation of the digital restoration the film received in 2016. Tickets and info can be found here.

The Music Box Theatre in Chicago is screening a 35mm print of David Lynch’s horrifying BLUE VELVET at 4:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

The New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles is doing a double feature of Richard Linklater’s DAZED AND CONFUSED at 7:00 pm and SCHOOL OF ROCK at 9:10 pm. Both films are being screened from 35mm prints. Tickets and info can be found here.

The Metrograph in New York is screening a 35mm print of John Ford’s STAGECOACH. You can check out the film that made a star of John Wayne at 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

SNAKE IN THE EAGLE’S SHADOW, one of the early action-comedies that made a star of Jackie Chan, is playing at the Amherst Cinema in Amherst, MA at 9:45 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
