[DAILY RUNDOWN] TODAY’S COOL SCREENINGS!

THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 5, 2017 (All show times are local)

THAT’S SEXPLOITATION!, the documentary by director Frank Henenlotter covering everything from nudie cuties to the less savory aspects of the genre, is playing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers, NY at 7:00 pm. Henenlotter will be on hand to present the film. That will be followed by Henenlotter presenting the 1969 sexploitation feature THE STEWARDESSES 3D at 10:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

The Joy Cinema and Pub in Tigard, OR is screening the cult classic horror of CARNIVAL OF SOULS at 9:15 pm. This is a free show, but you must be 21 or over to attend. All info can be found here.

Director Michael Laughlin and screenwriter Bill Condon tried to recreate rural Illinois in New Zealand for their early ’80s horror flick STRANGE BEHAVIOR. They failed miserably at that task, but inadvertently crafted an off-kilter slasher film that calls back to the tropes of ’50s sci-fi films in the process. If that doesn’t sound fun, there might be something wrong with you. You can catch a 35mm screening of it at the Metrograph in New York at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Sleazy and uncomfortable late ’80s regional slasher flick LUTHER THE GEEK is playing at FilmScene in Iowa City, IA at 10:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

It may have kicked off an increasingly silly action franchise, but FIRST BLOOD still holds up as a tense little film. You can catch it at the Senator Theatre in Baltimore at 8:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

The Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn is screening a 35mm print of Patrick Swayze’s first film. That’s right, SKATETOWN USA will be showing at 9:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Go see Cynthia Rothrock in one of her defining vehicles: LADY DRAGON. It is screening at 7:30 pm at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, OR. Tickets and info can be found here.

Forget that boring, bloated pirate movie currently in theaters. Go see Jean Peters in Jacques Tourneur’s super-fun ANNE OF THE INDIES on the campus of Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago at 7:30 pm. This is a 35mm screening presented by the Chicago Film Society. Tickets are $5 at the door. All info can be found here.
