I don’t know about you, Jack, but when I think of classic action films from the 90s,the films of Renny Harlin are right in the mix. One of his best was THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT which featured Gena Davis slinging bullets, Sam Jackson cracking wise, and the underrated Craig Bierko as the main villain. DG initially broke the news of the planned sequel but since then the project went quiet. On the press tour for his new film DEVIL’S PASS, Harlin updated us on the project and it sounds like though it isn’t moving fast, it does still have life.
“It’s very much in the works. I just talked to the writer yesterday (BURN NOTICE scribe Ben Watkins) and he is working on the script. Sam (Jackson) is on board and I just need to show him the script and then go from there. There is just a lot of ways to make the film in today’s world. We can make it really big, we can make it kind of down and dirty, there are a lot of ways to do it and we have a really great story to tell. ”
When we talked to Harlin a while back he said the “main idea of the story is that the adventure is with Sam Jackson’s character and Gena’s daughter in the film grown up and the two on the road together” with the mission being to find out who killed her mother.
Renny Harlin’s new film DEVIL’S PASS premieres in select theaters and on VOD August 23).
