THE NEW RELEASE WALL FOR 1/17

COBURN VS. HESTON, PLATINUM PUSSYCATS,

AND COMPANY C THIS WEEK ON THE WALL!

Only three titles worth grabbing this week, Bastards. January started slow but the next two weeks are an orgy of exploitation, eyeball punching bliss: THE WOMAN, DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK, the Jean Rollins collection, GODZILLA (Blu), LETHAL LADIES 2… and the hits keep coming. So dig the shit that’s dropping this week but buckle up, because next week we have an assload of titles coming our way. As always, click the poster to buy or browse at Amazon and help support our little dirty secret.

Now THIS is a goddamn double feature. A James Coburn double blast of tough. THE LAST HARD MEN and SKY RIDERS, a badass western and solid revenge yarn. Done and done, Bastards.

SKY RIDERS is a cool flick, it’s fun to see Robert Culp and Coburn together, two underrated actors. THE LAST HARD MEN though is one of my favorite westerns. Coburn is ruthless in this as Provo, an escaped convict leading his band of criminals to Brugade (Heston), the man who put him in the clink and killed his wife. This flick almost ended up with an X rating back in the day due to the bloodshed and a pretty brutal rape scene. Heston’s performance is full of monologues and old west ponderings, Coburn is the fucking terror bringing vengeance and justice. These two going head to head is something to see. You also get a small dose of Christopher Parks in the first half. Some labels you just buy… Shout! Factory is one of those labels.

Another double feature, but this one is for the midnight crowd. PLATINUM PUSSYCAT is a weird flick that is kind of an exploitation tease. It has a bit of everything: action, revenge, and yeah boobs. It’s like the director had ADD and an erection at the same time. Not the best combo but the movie kind of works. All is saved though when THE SEXPLOITERS gears up. This flick is the shit and fully embraces the sexploitation genre. Technically it has a story but really it’s just a tool to introduce scenes of chicks doing things like role-playing and getting nekkid, it’s hilarious and best viewed with buddies and beer.

The first flick in Sidney J. Furie’s Vietnam Trilogy and I have to admit that I haven’t seen the other two (UNDER HEAVY FIRE, THE VETERAN). THE BOYS IN COMPANY C is one of the best films about that war and the general mindset of the troops who served there. It’s kind of interesting that vets often cite this film and Trenchard-Smith’s SIEGE ON FIREBASE GLORIA as some of the best. The power of the grindhouse; fuck you, Oliver Stone. COMPANY C pre-dates FULL METAL JACKET and odds are that Kubrick saw this at some point and used it as inspiration for his flick which doesn’t hold a candle to Furie’s work. Do yourself a favor and see this flick, and if you’ve already caught it, it deserves a re-watch.

That’s it for this week, bastards.

We’re back next week with: THE WOMAN, DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK, the Jean Rolins collection, GODZILLA (Blu), LETHAL LADIES 2, and more.

Until then…

HERE’S TO GOOD WATCHING THIS WEEK, SALUTE!

THE BOYS IN COMPANY C is indeed, a great Viet Nam flick. It introduced the phrase “Disloyal clayfaced fuck” into my vocabulary.
