New flicks on Hulu include Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, and Vincent D’Onofrio in Antoine Fuqua’s THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN (2016), James McAvoy in the entertaining Irvine Welsh adaptation FILTH, the 2014 Chinese action film ONCE UPON A TIME IN SHANGHAI (a remake of 1972’s BOXER FROM SHANTUNG), recent zombie flicks DARKEST DAY and ALIEN VS. ZOMBIES, the Australian thriller HOUNDS OF LOVE and, best of all, Jonathan Silverman in ROBO-DOG: AIRBORNE, the long-awaited sequel to ROBO-DOG where he flies now. For TV, you can binge on the Jane Campion-produced Australian thriller Top of the Lake: China Girl, with Elizabeth Moss returning as a Sydney police detective, with Nicole Kidman joining the cast.

New releases on Hoopla include Wesley Snipes in the alien invasion film THE RECALL, the animated Lewis Carroll adaptation THE HUNTING OF THE SNARK and the Serbian-made animated cyberpunk film TECHNOTISE, the slasher throwback MOST LIKELY TO DIE, the docs 24 HOUR COMIC (about Scott McCloud’s 24 Hour Comic Challenge) and AMERICA’S MOST HAUNTED INNS, and, er, 5-HEADED SHARK ATTACK. A few other notable additions include Jim Wynorski’s CHOPPING MALL and the excellent mockumentary WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS.

Get your rocks off with Penelope Spheeris’ 1981 punk doc classic THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION and the 1998 follow-up THE DECLINE OF WESTEN CIVILIZATION PART III, Susan Seidelman’s 1982 punk flick SMITHEREENS, The Clash in the 1982 documentary RUDE BOY and punk rock fatherhood in THE OTHER F WORD (2011).
