AMAZING GRACE (1974)

“Moms” Mabley was huge on the black comedy circuit for decades, but her one attempt at a big studio starring role didn’t come until she was 80, playing a sassy old woman who ends up getting involved in a local mayoral election when she finds the black incumbent is horribly corrupt. Is it funny? Not really! But hell, what a cast, including Butterfly McQueen, Stepin Fetchit, Rosiland Cash, Slappy White, Moses Gunn, James Karen and Dolph Sweet.

Keep the Popcorn buttered and burnt,

Paul
