THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

THE KING OF COMEDY might actually be Robert De Niro’s finest moment as an actor. You can catch this classic piece of dark squirm comedy at the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn at 7:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

Mario Bava’s beautiful and sinister horror anthology BLACK SABBATH is playing at the Siskel Film Center in Chicago at 6:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

The Castro Theatre in San Francisco is running the inspired double feature of SOME LIKE IT HOT at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm and HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH at 5:10 pm and 9:15 pm. Both films are being screened from 35mm prints. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

 

Rejoice, for the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles is screening a 70mm print of Tobe Hooper’s LIFEFORCE at 7:30pm! Granted, it’s the U.S. theatrical version, but you cannot pass up this opportunity. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

The Metrograph in New York is screening two very different, but great films from the ’90s. At 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm, and 10:00pm is the howlingly funny QUICK CHANGE. Tickets and info for that film can be found here. At 7:00 pm is the great Pam Grier in JACKIE BROWN. Tickets and info for that film can be found here. Both films are screening from 35mm prints.

 

 

 

John Waters’ classic cult film FEMALE TROUBLE is screening from a 35mm print at the Alamo Drafthouse in Denver at 7:30 pm (Why not midnight? Come on!). Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

Nicole Kidman gives one of her best performances in Gus Van Sant’s acidic satire TO DIE FOR. It is screening from a 35mm print at Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn at 7:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
