THE NEW RELEASE WALL FOR 11/5: BRIAN DE PALMA, CHAN-WOOK PARK, RICKY JAY, AND MORE

Welcome back to The Wall, ya bunch of delinquents.

Kind of a weird week. There isn’t a lack of titles, but the getting ain’t all that good. Sure, you have an OLDBOY 10th Anniversary release, NAKED CITY: The Complete Series, and a couple cool documentaries about Bill Plimpton and Ricky Jay respectively, but outside of that it’s Holiday re-releases and mediocrity. Picking a release of the week is kind of tough when you have a batch like this, but with a proverbial gun to our head…

Release of the Week is Brian De Palma’s PASSION. This was largely dismissed by critics as nothing but a greatest hits package of De Palma style over substance, and they may be right, but in a world of shitty cinema, is that such a bad thing? PASSION plays like a 70s skin flick with moments of heightened tension and curiosities with more than a few breathtaking tracking shots for good measure. I am not going to tell you to click the buy button without a first glance because this won’t be for everyone, but if you’re even a passive De Palma fan, this is your jam, motherfucker.

Also out this week is WHITE HOUSE DOWN, that other “things going south in the West Wing” film. I didn’t outright hate this film, it’s fine if you have time to kill. Guess I just prefer my White House in chaos when Morgan Freeman and the great Robert Forester are in it.

That’s it for this week. Use the links below to snag some of this good shit and help keep the DG doors open. We appreciate all the support! The Wall is back next week with AKIRA (BD), JOHN CARPENTER’S BODY BAGS (BD), CITY LIGHTS (BD), NOSFERATU (BD) and more.
