[DAILY RUNDOWN] TODAY’S COOL SCREENINGS!

THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

MONDAY, MAY 29, 2017 (All show times are local)

I doubt that when Clint Eastwood and Don Siegel collaborated on DIRTY HARRY, they had any sense that they were creating a franchise. You can see how self-contained and ambivalent about the main character’s ethically dubious methods the original film actually was when it plays at the Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas, TX at 1:25 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

THE PLAYER, Robert Altman’s ruthless dissection of the Hollywood studio system, is playing at the Charles Theatre in Baltimore, MD at 7:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

The Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers, NY continues its It Came From ’97 series with STARSHIP TROOPERS. This is a 35mm screening, hosted by the legendary Joe Bob Briggs. Tickets and info can be found here.

A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, the first film the Marx Brothers made with only the trio of Groucho, Harpo, and Chico, is playing at the Trylon Microcinema in Minneapolis, MN at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

The Castro Theatre in San Francisco is showing the kickass double feature of THE UNTOUCHABLES at 6:00 pm and L.A. CONFIDENTIAL at 8:15 pm. L.A. CONFIDENTIAL is being screened from a 35mm print. Tickets and info can be found here.

THE SPY WHO LOVED ME is widely considered Roger Moore’s best James Bond film. Not being much of a Bond aficionado, who am I to argue? The Alamo Drafthouse in Winchester, VA is screening the film as a tribute to the late star at 7:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
