THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

FRIDAY, JULY 14, 2017 (All show times are local)

Quad Cinema in New York is giving us all the special treat of a Mario Bava retrospective through this month. At 5:00 pm is a 35mm screening of LISA AND THE DEVIL. At 7:05 pm is a 35mm screening of BAY OF BLOOD (a.k.a TWITCH OF THE DEATH NERVE and CARNAGE). At 9:00 pm is his sci-fi-horror mash up PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES. Tickets and info can be found here.

John Woo’s amazing Hong Kong action flick HARD BOILED is screening from a 35mm print at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago at midnight. Tickets and info can be found here.

The New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles is doing a double feature of Michael Crichton sci-fi films. At 7:00 pm is Yul Brynner in WESTWORLD and at 9:10 pm is RUNAWAY. Both films are being screened from 35mm prints. Tickets and info can be found here.

Michael Mann’s essential ’80s noir THIEF is showing at BAMcinématek in Brooklyn at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

SHOCK CORRIDOR, one of Sam Fuller’s greatest and most influential indie films, is screening at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA at midnight from a 16mm print. Tickets and info can be found here.

The truly bizarre and offensive early ’70s flick THE ZODIAC KILLER (a movie that cannot be called a docudrama with a straight face) is showing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Houston at 10:00 pm. This is the 4K restoration of the film done by the American Genre Film Archive and Something Weird video. Tickets and info can be found here.

David Cronenberg’s excellent crime drama EASTERN PROMISES is showing at Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn at midnight. Tickets and info can be found here.
